Who Are The White Helmets?

In a place marred with destruction and injustice, a place where civilians have no one to turn to but themselves, the volunteer civil defense organization Syria Civil Defense, better known as The White Helmets, rose.

The White Helmets was officially formed in 2014 from volunteer rescue teams in the war-torn Syrian territories. Their main aim is to aid civilians caught in the monstrosity of the war. With over 3000 volunteers operating in the most dangerous areas, The White Helmets have rescued more than 80,000 people.

In 2016 they were nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize and in the same year they were awarded The Right Livelihood Award. A short documentary film about them titled “The White Helmets” was nominated for and subsequently won the 2017 Oscar award for best short documentary.

The members risk their lives and often fall victims to war themselves to save innocent souls because the organization’s motto is “To save a life is to save all of humanity”.
